Tova Wolff
Co-Founder/Artistic Director
(she/her) Tova Wolff is a Chicago-based director and the Artistic Director & Co-Founder of Refracted Theatre Company. Her work spans new plays, contemporary classics, and musicals, with a focus on formally inventive, conversation-driven theatre that interrogates power, identity, and accountability.
Recent directing credits include Coronation (Refracted | The Den Theatre, 2025), Shrek The Musical (The Latin School of Chicago, 2024), A Play About David Mamet Writing a Play About Harvey Weinstein (Refracted | Theatre Wit, 2023), I Couldn’t Tell You Why (Refracted | Open Culture Project, 2022), Contrition (Refracted | The Swell, 2020), and Monica: This Play Is Not About Monica Lewinsky (Via Brooklyn | 59E59 & Edinburgh Fringe). She has also served as Associate/Resident Director on The King’s Speech (Chicago Shakespeare Theater & National Tour) and Associate Director on Fade at Victory Gardens.
Since founding Refracted in 2019, Tova has led the company’s growth into a recognized Chicago arts organization, developing its mainstage programming and launching Role Call, a free community reading series designed to spark civic dialogue through shared inquiry. Under her leadership, Refracted has strengthened its governance, clarified its artistic identity, and deepened its commitment to equitable and accountable collaboration.
Tova holds a B.A. in Theatre and History from Northwestern University, along with certificates in Nonprofit Management, Digital Marketing & AI, and Conflict Mediation. Her work bridges artistic rigor with sustainable leadership, grounded in the belief that theatre should not only reflect the world—but refract it.
Graham Miller
Co-Founder/Artistic Advisor
(he/him) Graham is a theatre director and the co-founder of RTC. Directing credits include: Homeless Garden (Refracted), Be A Good Little Widow (Refracted), I Am My Own Wife (Out Front Theatre Co.), The Dark by Serena Berman (Samuel French OOB Festival Finalist), Fostered Love by Claire-Frances Sullivan (TACT), Heavy is the Head…Or Why We Bow by J.S. Hinds (Amoralists ‘Wright Night at Rattlestick), and cabarets/solo pieces at such venues as Green Room 42, Don’t Tell Mama, The Duplex and The Tank. Assistant/associate work includes projects with Michael Arden (Roundabout), Trip Cullman (Powerhouse), Michael Rader (Cape Playhouse) and Zi Alikhan (BASiC.) MTC Directing Fellow, SDCF Observership Recipient, Director’s Lab Chicago alumnus. The practice of looking for the gray in a world of black and white, despite the inevitable cognitive dissonance this creates, has yielded the most rewarding lessons of his life. He hopes to share that odyssey with the Refracted community by inspiring a balance of skepticism and empathy.
Katy Campbell
marketing Director, Senior Producer
(she/her) Katy is the Marketing Director of RTC and a Chicago-based actor, singer and director. She’s worked with Factory Theater, Blank Theatre, Hell in a Handbag, The Plagiarists, Red Theatre, Underscore and more. She is a founding member of the horror theatre ensemble, Abyssal Zone Collective. Katy hopes to cultivate community through stories.
Kenya Ann Hall
Literary Curator
Kenya Ann Hall (she/her) is an actress, writer and dramaturg based in Chicago, raised in Oakland, CA. Her dramaturgy credits include Oak (Raven Theatre); Beneath the Willow Tree (Pulse Theatre Chicago); Alaiyo, Fairview, Judy’s Life’s Work, Splash Hatch on the E Going Down, (Definition Theatre Company); Tambo & Bones, Coronation (Refracted Theatre Company); Panther Women (Cleveland Public Theatre); Kill Move Paradise (asst./Timeline Theatre); Saint Joan (Poetic Forum Collective); The Good Fight and The Lady Demands Satisfaction (Babes with Blades). She has provided dramaturgy for new play development workshops at Broken Nose Theatre, Refracted Theatre Company and Definition Theatre Company. She is a graduate of Northwestern University where she completed the Playwriting Module and the Advanced Playwriting Sequence.
Zach Barr
Literary Manager
Zach Barr (they/them) is a nonbinary multidisciplinary theatre artist. Their produced plays include Quinlyn Can Paint (Black Cat Theatre), The Pilon (Red Theater, Jeff Award nominee), and their adaptation of Winnie-the-Pooh (Talespinner Children’s Theatre). They’ve completed residencies with Three Brothers Theatre and Filament Theatre, are a two-time semi-finalist for Seven Devils New Play Foundry, and have had work developed by Valdez Theatre Conference, Bramble Theatre Company, and Fat Theatre Project. Zach serves as Literary Manager at Red Theater and Artistic Associate at Refracted Theatre Company, curating new play reading series for both companies. Azi Akpan (she/they) is a Chicago-based interdisciplinary strategist, artist, and entrepreneur who is passionate about socioeconomic equity, creativity, and personal empowerment.
Caroline Schwartz
Role Call Producer
Caroline Schwartz (she/her) is a Chicago-based Licensed Clinical Social Worker turned Campus Recruiter. With a strong foundation in psychotherapeutic work, she has extensive experience supporting clients in both individual and group settings. Her academic background includes a degree in film, reflecting her deep passion for the arts. She enjoys intellectual discourse and exploring how art impacts our perspectives on the world. Caroline is thrilled to continue her work with the Refracted Community, where she looks forward to leveraging her unique skills and experiences to contribute to the continued success and growth of Role Call.
